New Beacon Checkpoints in Idaho in Memory of Rob Kincaid

April 2021 Feature

In memory of Rob “RMR” Kincaid, Dave McClure spearheaded an initiative to create beacon checkpoints at the Idaho trailheads they used most often. They include:

  • Pole Canyon- Victor
  • Pine Creek Pass- Swan Valley
  • Sheep Creek- Swan Valley

To help with the effort, Arctic Cat sponsored one of the stations. SnoWest Magazine also sponsored a station, and Speedwerx sponsored the third. Posts for the new signs were installed in November by McClure, with help from Rob’s brother and the Forest Service. The signs were designed by Octane Ink and built by Rob’s cousin, Brian Nelson, from Montana Metal Art Company. Installation of the signs took place in March with the help of McClure, Nelson and an Arctic Cat representative.

The checkpoints are now ready to promote increased safety in the backcountry and ensure RMR’s legacy lives on.
