Early Winter Riding

Testing the snow conditions in eastern Idaho

After enduring the heat, dust and dirt of summer, it’s great to see the snow begin to accumulate in the mountains with the promise of a long winter with abundant powder for snowmobiling.

Just like a kid before Christmas, we’re always anxious to “shake the box” a little and get a taste of what winter is going to be like by taking that first ride even though the snow isn’t like Christmas morning yet.

So early season rides are more of a fact-finding mission to see what the snow accumulation is actually doing. We do these rides for several reasons. First, we want to get the break-in miles on our new snowmobiles. Second, we want to retrain our winter muscles (stretch them out) so we can get back into riding shape. Third, we want to see how the snow base is forming in the higher elevations. And finally, we want to ride … even though it’s not the kind of ride we live for.

Here is a quick look at our early-season ride in eastern Idaho.
